Inclusive, culturally informed depth psychotherapy

Starting psychotherapy can be a strange and potentially daunting experience. We’ll work together so you feel informed, safe, seen and centred within our work and able to bring whatever is on your mind into your weekly space with me.

My approach

I am a warm, thoughtful and depth-oriented psychotherapist working mostly using relational psychodynamic and existential frameworks. In practice this means thinking about your experience of yourself, your life and relationships in terms of deeper rooted patterns used to navigate them, and this generally tends to be longer term work.

However you may also want to make life more manageable with struggles (or if relevant, symptoms) that are making life difficult on a daily basis. If we agree that it feels right for you, we may also draw on third-wave behavioural approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to think about this together over a shorter period of time.

Inclusive and culturally-informed psychotherapy

It goes without saying that psychotherapy should meet you where you are at regardless of culture, orientation or background. With this in mind, I pay particular attention to the ways wider systemic factors may play into your current situation as well as how the relationship between us unfolds, and this is something we can explore as much or as little as you want to.

  • Initial contact

The process normally starts with contacting me through my contact form or on Counselling Directory.

    Free 20 minute consultation

After this, I would send you a Google Meet invite for a 20 minute consultation to understand what you are looking for in therapy and for you to see if you’d like to work with me.

    Assessment

If you decide you’d like to work with me, we would schedule up a 60-90 minutes for an online initial assessment session to get a sense of what life has been like for you up until the point of contacting me. This will normally cover both physical and mental health, and you are welcome to share as much or as little as you want to share. At this point I may refer you on to another therapist or organisation who I feel may be able. to help better than I can.

This session will be charged at £45.

    First 4-5 sessions

After assessment, the first few sessions will be a time to deepen understanding of what life has been like for you and how you are affected day to day. This is also your chance to assess how safe and comfortable you are feeling in our sessions, and whether you are initially feeling like it may help you.

    First review

Around session 5 or 6, we’ll usually review how you’re finding our sessions and if you would find it helpful, I’ll share my impression of what might help going forwards.

    Reviews and check-ins

It’s important that you find the therapy relationship safe and helpful so you may find that I check in with you around this. There may be more formal reviews every 5-6 sessions around this, however this is always after checking with you.

    Ending therapy

You are of course welcome to end our sessions at any time. If it feels possible, I ask that we have at least one session to think about the ending together, and what felt helpful or unhelpful for you.
